Tell us where child is, pay K500, 000, or we drag you to Court for tormenting Ketai, Legal Aid tells Attorney General
NURSE WHO insisted on referring Ketai's son from Kanyama Level One Hospital to the University Teaching Hospitals, Newborn section, confirms missing child only had breathing challenges and not red and burnt black skin or body irregularities shown on body of infant UTH claimed is Ketai Mwale's son.
Coming to the aid of Ketai Mwale-Kangwa, Legal Aid Clinic for Women has demanded that Ketai be given back her missing newborn son.
According to a letter of demand to the Attorney General of Zambia, copied to the Permanent Secretary — Ministry of Health, Kanyama Level One Hospital and UTH, Legal Aid Clinic for Women states that Ketai demands damages for inconvenience, mental anguish and negligence on the part of Kanyama Level One and UTH.
"If you do not respond to us within 14 days of receipt of this letter, we have instructions to seek legal recourse in the courts of law...Our client demands damages worth K500, 000," reads in part, the letter dated February 4, 2026.
The Clinic says they stand for Ketai because of the manner in which DNA samples were collected from Ketai and a lifeless infant the Hospital claims is hers.
They say UTH refused to allow Ketai to be present as experts extracted samples from a lifeless infant they claimed was hers and further that, no family member witnessed them conduct a postmortem examination as is per procedure.
The letter further points out Kanyama Level One Hospital's alleged negligence wherein the nurse only identified as Barbara wrote wrong details on the child's records.
Legal Aid Clinic for Women alleges that Kanyama Level One Hospital failed to make Barbara available and only gave excuses, "Like she is on leave, or stuck in traffic. The hospital management insisted that they would represent her...as a result meeting failed to take place."
Zambia Army troops confiscate military gearThe Zambia Army Military Police yesterday launched a coordinated operation in Lusaka to confiscate military regalia from traders and members of the public.
According to Army Headquarters Provost Operations Officer, Captain Lucky Ngoma, various military boots and tactical gloves were seized and subsequently handed over to the Zambia Police Service.
Capt Ngoma stated that culprits found in possession of the regalia were also apprehended and handed over to the police for further handling.
The operation follows a renewed warning issued last week by the Zambia Army, cautioning the public against the use, wearing, possession, procurement, importation, or manufacturing of military regalia, or any semblance thereof.
In a press statement, Army Spokesperson Colonel Sydney Mwewa reminded citizens that such conduct constitutes a violation of Section 6 (a) of the State Security Act, Chapter 111 of the Laws of Zambia.
Colonel Mwewa stressed that the Military Police have been given strict instructions to confiscate any military regalia found in trading places and to apprehend individuals contravening the law.
The Army Spokesperson reiterated that military regalia is strictly reserved for serving members of the Defence Force of Zambia.
He emphasised that unauthorised use undermines both national security and the dignity of the uniform.
The crackdown will continue until the country is completely rid of all military regalia or any semblance thereof.
